Watchman Nee was a native of a province in Southern China. In 1920 at the age of seventeen he came under the hearing of the gospel and after some struggle, received Christ as his Savior and Lord. Since then, the ministry of Watchman Nee has been one of the most significant and spiritual to emerge during the 20th century. His labors had a profound effect upon the spreading of the gospel and the establishing of hundreds of local churches throughout Asia, while his many books and spoken messages have become a rich supply to believers throughout the world. Because of his faith, Nee was imprisoned in 1952 and remained so for the last twenty years of his life.

This book is a collection compiled by Angus Kinnear in the late 1930's after Nee visited Europe for a series of speaking engagements. Several of the addresses forming the material from which this book has been compiled have already been published independently. Others, covering similar but wider ground, have existed for long in manuscript or note form. Kinnear undertook the editing of the available material to form this compilation. The author’s message in this collected form had its origin as spoken ministry. It is therefore not wholly systematic. On none of the subjects dealt with is it to be regarded as exhaustive. It should be approached prayerfully—not as a treatise, but as a living message to the heart.
