Foxe's
Book of Martyrs
John Foxe
| "Foxe's
Book of Martyrs" is a record of the Protestant martyrs,
beginning with Stephen and ending during the reign of Queen
Mary. Foxe was an educated martyrologist and was, himself, on
the run from persecution for a period of his life. This collection
of stories is an inspirational volume of the power of faith.
The accounts of believers who stood triumphantly in the face
of torture and death create courage in anyone facing the trials
of life. The faithfulness of such historical figures as William
Tyndale and Martin Luther will inspire you to live for Christ
today. |

The
Normal Christian Life
Watchman Nee
|
Watchman
Nee was a native of a province in Southern China. In 1920
at the age of seventeen he came under the hearing of the gospel
and after some struggle, received Christ as his Savior and
Lord. Since then, the ministry of Watchman Nee has been one
of the most significant and spiritual to emerge during the
20th century. His labors had a profound effect upon the spreading
of the gospel and the establishing of hundreds of local churches
throughout Asia, while his many books and spoken messages
have become a rich supply to believers throughout the world.
Because of his faith, Nee was imprisoned in 1952 and remained
so for the last twenty years of his life.
This
book is a collection compiled by Angus Kinnear in the late
1930's after Nee visited Europe for a series of speaking engagements.
Several of the addresses forming the material from which this
book has been compiled have already been published independently.
Others, covering similar but wider ground, have existed for
long in manuscript or note form. Kinnear undertook the editing
of the available material to form this compilation. The authors
message in this collected form had its origin as spoken ministry.
It is therefore not wholly systematic. On none of the subjects
dealt with is it to be regarded as exhaustive. It should be
approached prayerfullynot as a treatise, but as a living
message to the heart.

The
Release of the Spirit
Watchman Nee
| This
manuscript of Watchman Nee is a vital message needing to be
shared and known by all the Lord's seeking ones who long to
be a channel for His Life. One cannot read very far before sensing
Watchman Nee's longing and prayer is that the Church may know
the Lord in the fullest way, that God's people may be increasingly
fruitful unto Him, that He may find a minimum of hindrance in
us, and that He may be fully released through our quickened
and controlled spirit. In his many years of laboring with fellow
workers, Brother Nee has clearly seen the absolute necessity
of brokenness. There may be some who are unprepared for such
a bitter dose of spiritual medicine, yet we believe anyone with
discernment and hunger will agree that the breaking of the soulpowers
is imperative if the human spirit is to express the Life of
the Lord Jesus. |

The
Practice of the Presence of God
Brother Lawrence
| Nicholas
Herman came from a humble background and was an unlearned man.
He was converted in 1629, and after being a soldier and a footman
for some time, he entered the religious community of the Carmelites
in Paris in about 1649. It was there, as a lay brother, that
he took the name of Brother Lawrence. He remained in the community
until his death in 1691. While there he worked most of the time
as a helper in the kitchen, and it was in this specific surrounding
that he became known for his simple, practical faith. His writings,
consisting mainly of conversations and letters, were compiled
and edited after his death. Brother Lawrence teaches us, that
amidst outward affairs and daily occupations, it is possible
to cultivate a life of contemplation. Every Christian has the
ability, by the grace of God, to enjoy an ongoing fellowship
with his Creator wherever he is and whatever he does. |

War
On the Saints (unabridged)
Jessie Penn-Lewis/Evan Roberts
| The
premise of "War on the Saints" is that the end-time
onslaught of Satan against the Christian church is well-underway.
The authors propose spiritual measures to achieve ultimate victory.
This book was written primarily by Jessie Penn-Lewis in collaboration
with Evan Roberts who was the leading figure of the Welsh revival
in 1904. This is the unabridged version, rarely available in
bookstores anymore as modern Western society has attempted to
write off the nature and activity of the demonic as primitive
descriptions of psychological ailments. The original text delves
deeply into the work of deceiving spirits, their effects on
the believer, and how to deal with them. |

"Why
Am I Still so Miserable?" - A Commentary on the Book of Job
William W. Wells
| Is
the book of Job a historical record or just a morality tale?
This account of the devastation poured out on the head of a
single man seems to defy belief, but woven through is a rich
tapestry of personal detail. The many details give the narrative
a texture uncharacteristic of epic tales. It has all the grit
of real life. Wells offers a practical and straightforward approach
to understanding the lessons that God offers in Job for the
"everyday Christian." |
